Canadian Shot Zombie Thriller Blood Quantum Brings an Insightful Story to Horror Audiences in 2020

Blood Quantum is the latest film from Rhymes for Young Ghouls' director Jeff Barnaby. His latest is a zombie thriller. And, the film's title is taken from the process of determining indigeneity, which looks at the percentage of Indigenous ancestry, from the blood. This title had its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, earlier this year. Now, the film is getting set to debut on the Shudder platform later this year. Blood Quantum stars: Michael Greyeyes ("Fear of the Walking Dead"), Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers (Bloodland) and Forrest Goodluck. Several clips and a trailer have been released for the film throughout the year; one of those clips can be found below.

Director Barnaby has gone into more depth on the film's politics. On MSN, he has looked at the contentious relationship between multiple colonizers of the Canadian territory and the inclusion of Mi'gmaq nation in Canada's past and present: "I think you're looking at a Western culture that can't come to terms with it, and you're looking at a minority culture that has to come to terms with it, and I think everybody is butting heads in the middle and I think that's where art comes in." Barnaby's latest film continues to look at specific issues that affect Mi'gmaqs. Insightfully, Barnaby also mentions how art can heal: "I think the poets and the painters and the filmmakers and the musicians are going to start bridging that gap and help everybody heal." In all of the film's bloodshed, there is a story of hope within Blood Quantum.

Shudder has not announced a specific release date for Blood Quantum. However, indie horror or zombie thriller fans will not have to wait long as Blood Quantum completes a film festival run. From Prospector Films, this title is one to look for as the film delivers a message in its action focused story.
