The Top Ten Most Dangerous Killers in Film!

As a movie enthusiast and the guy that runs Movie Room Reviews, I, Zack Mandell, have wondered for a while now: which of the horror movie murderers have killed the most in their on-screen careers? Breaking it down by amount of kills, here are the 10 most dangerous killers in the movies.

10. The Creeper – Kill Count: 20

As seen in: Jeepers Creeper (2001), Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003).

Depicted by: Jonathan Breck.

For a guy that comes out every 23 years and can only kill for 23 days, a kill count of 20 is pretty impressive. His obsession with body parts is pretty disgusting too. Unfortunately, his victims generally are not allowed to just donate them, meaning that the creeper has probably racked up an impressive body count over the last couple thousand years.

9. Ghostface – Kill Count: 28

As seen in: Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), Scream 4 (2011); depicted by: Skeet Ulrich, Timothy Olyphant, Scott Foley, Emma Roberts, Matthew Lillard and Rory Culkin.

Some people might have a problem with this kill count because the people that don the Ghostface mask do have some kills, albeit unmasked. This kill count excludes those murders and also excludes the two girls killed in the Stab 6 metamovie. Nevertheless, the Ghostface has become a pop culture icon and he is essentially the official mask of the Halloween season.

8. Leatherface – Kill Count: 30

Seen in: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986), Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990), Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006).

Depicted by: Gunnar Hansen, Bill Johnson, R.A. Mihailoff, Robert Jack, Andrew Bryniarski, and Dan Yeager.

Leatherface comes in at 8th place with 30 kills — technically this means that he tied Chucky, but since he has a chainsaw, a height advantage, and generally he is not technically the same character in all of the movies, he did not make the 7 spot. Still, being ripped apart by a chainsaw is a pretty brutal way to die, and listening to the whine of that chainsaw coming toward you from a distance is just chilling.

7. Chucky – Kill Count: 30

Seen in: Child’s Play (1988), Child’s Play 2 (1990), Child’s Play 3 (1991), Bride of Chucky (1998), Seed of Chucky (2004).

Looking at him, he is not much and it makes you wonder how somebody so tiny could get away with taking so human lives, but 30 kills, mostly unassisted, put Chucky in the 7 spot. What is interesting about Chucky is that his image redefines something so comforting, a doll. And, it turns into a possessed, psychopathic, and blood-thirsty doll. Hug your doll if you get scared—actually, don’t because it might kill you!

6. Pinhead – Kill Count: 35

Seen in: Hellraiser (1987), Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988), Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992), Hellraiser: Bloodline (1996), Hellraiser: Inferno (2000), Hellraiser: Hellseeker (2002), Hellraiser: Deader (2005), Hellraiser: Revelations (2011).

With 8 movies under his belt, one might think that Pinhead would have more than 35 kills listed. Still, 35 is good for a demon, with an acupuncture problem. He lets his lesser Cenobites in on the action every time he is summoned from Hell. If there’s one thing Pinhead did, it was to make everybody look at their Rubik’s cube twice.

5. Freddy Krueger – Kill Count: 43

Seen in: A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985), A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988), A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989), Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991), Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994), Freddy vs. Jason (2003), A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010).

Depicted by: Robert Englund, and Jackie Earle Haley.

Not only does Freddy kill people, he does it in their dreams. This creepy burn victim redefined scary. Traditionally kids shut their eyes because they were afraid of the dark; Freddy causes them to keep their eyes open because they’re afraid of falling asleep. That is intense.

4. The Leprechaun – Kill Count: 45

Seen in: Leprechaun (1993), Leprechaun 2 (1994), Leprechaun 3 (1995), Leprechaun 4: In Space (1997), Leprechaun: In the Hood (2000), Leprechaun: Back 2 Tha Hood (2003).

Depicted by: Warwick Davis.

He might be small and funny, but he’s an Irish born killer with a taste for blood. This miniscule murderer might be the most entertaining on this list. He has a smaller stature and ridiculous quips that are rivaled only by Chucky.

3. Jigsaw – Kill Count: 75

Seen in: Saw (2004), Saw II (2005), Saw III (2006), Saw IV (2007), Saw V (2008), Saw VI (2009), Saw 3D (2010)

Depicted by: Tobin Bell.

Not only are there a ridiculous amount of people that Jigsaw has killed, he also wins the award for “Most Creative Ways to Kill People.” Talk about a Rube Goldberg obsession. Jigsaw is perhaps the least scary of the murderers on this list because he plays the role of a sort of anti-hero and he only puts people in situations where they might die and only when they deserve it. Well, when they deserve it according to him.

2. Michael Myers – Kill Count: 95

Seen in: Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981), Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988), Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989), Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995), Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), Halloween: Resurrection (2002), Halloween (2007), Halloween II (2009).

Depicted by: Nick Castle, Tony Moran, Dick Warlock, George P. Wilbur, Don Shanks, Chris Durand, Brad Loree, and Tyler Mane.

Some people may disagree with Michael Myers’ position on this list, because it includes two Rob Zombie remakes. But the numbers do not lie and Mike has killed a lot of people. Besides Leatherface, of all the murderers on this list, Michael Myers has been around the longest, slaying innocent people for the last 35 years and over the course of 10 movies. Myers is hard to beat, but he is, ultimately, beatable.

1. Jason Voorhees – Kill Count: Between 125 - 145

Seen in: Friday the 13th (1980), Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981), Friday the 13th Part III (1982), Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985), Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986), Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988), Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989), Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993), Jason X (2002), Freddy vs. Jason (2003), Friday the 13th (2009).

Depicted by: Warrington Gillette, Steve Daskewisz, Richard Brooker, Ted White, Tom Morga, C.J. Graham, Kane Hodder, Ken Kirzinger, and Derek Mears.

Before Jason, the hockey mask was just that—a hockey mask. After Jason, the hockey mask became a symbol of terror, analogous to the un-killable, machete wielding prowler of Camp Crystal Lake. With 125 kills caused directly by him and another 20 deaths caused as a result of his actions, all spanning 12 films and about 500 years if you include Jason X, Mr. Voorhees easily reaches the number one spot as the top killer in the movies.
