Cold Creepy Feeling and How Not to Name a Film: A Movie Review

Director/Writer: Keith Kurlander.

Cast: Lisa Younger, Jared Vandenberg and Dennis Woodruff.

With a full title like Cold Creepy Feeling Paranormal Exorcism to describe a movie, some supernatural enthusiasts may well wonder if this product is a farce. Who would even consider using a long description like that? How can such a product even consider itself to be taken seriously?

This movie has the feel of being made for a late-night television market and it may very well be an experimental product. A search of writer and director Keith Kurlander’s background reveals that most of his training is indeed with television. This motion picture might have been a pet project that he made out of his pocket with the help of an investor or two.

As ambitious as Kurlander is in wanting to contribute to the whole haunted house genre, his idea does not get anywhere close to being scary. It tries to be like Paranormal Activity with its background story of Chloe (Lisa Younger). Now if it only had gone further to develop what she discovered while climbing the hills nearby, the chills might have been there.

But when she and Jason (Jared Vandenberg) finally start hanging around the town of Joshua Tree to begin their new life away from Los Angeles, hopefully they will find what they are looking for. But troubles will no doubt arise. After the obligatory sex scene to kick things off, they start having nightmares! The scares developed here are very low tech.

If that isn’t bad enough, some of the characters sound like they were literally taken off the street. Others may have been store managers who were given a chance to be in a movie. At least Sheriff John (Dennis Woodruff) is an actor. The way he is filmed shows him having a jovial time playing a Corinthian. But he alone cannot save this film. By the time the movie gets interesting with story development, this picture ends as abruptly as the haunting starts.

Overall: 4 out of 10.
