The Witch(ing) Hour Begins Early with this Terrifying Trailer

It is rare to see a Sundance film entrant from the horror genre. Still, Robert Eggers won "Best Director" for his film, The Witch. This supernatural feature has an official trailer and the clip shows lots of shadows and darkness. But, where is the villain? Viewers' imaginations will have to fill in the blanks as a Massachusetts family struggles with a mysterious force. The film will release in 2016, through A24 Films. And, a preview for the film is available here.

The synopsis only scratches at the film's mystery. In 1630, a family of homesteaders experiences unfortunate events. A child is lost, the crops fail and strange omens appear. But still, this Christian family suffers onwards, until an inescapable evil comes into their midst.

The first trailer for The Witch hides its secret well. The clip is shown from the family's perspective, while something or someone lies in the forest. That something is only briefly revealed. Meanwhile, the film's score adds another terrifying element. The Witch is on this viewer's must-see list; will it be on yours?
