The Dead Want Women and the Fine Line Between Pornography and B-movie Filmmaking: A Movie Review

Director: Charles Band.

Writers: Charles Band and Kent Roudebush.

Cast: Jessica Morris, Ariana Madix and Eric Roberts

This reviewer visibly cringed when he read the title on the latest parcel to enter the 28DLA offices. The package was from Full Moon Pictures and the film inside was The Dead Want Women. So, immediately, you know you are in b-movie territory. Despite director Charles Band's 200+ filmography, he is essentially known, to this reviewer, as producing films that are meant to titillate male audiences (and some females). The barest of plots inhabit films such as Evil Bong and Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt. And The Dead Want Women is no different.

In the film's defence, the early scenes seem well rehearsed and the characterizations seemed thought out. However, it is a downhill slide from here on out. In the first ten minutes, there is a simulated sex scene involving two flapper girls and the scene just seems to go on and on. What is the point of this? And come on Eric Roberts put some more oomph in that bang. More pointless scenes are ahead.

A majority of the shots involve some sort of female nudity. Seeing as many of the actors and actresses have some experience in the Los Angeles pornography industry, Band keeps the clothes off and the dialogue simple. Really, this film is just one step above the plot of a skin flick and the result is not that entertaining.

Band needs to hire a suitable scriptwriter for his upcoming films. There needs to be more emphasis on the story rather than just getting women naked. Seeing actor Eric Roberts wearing a zombie mask was somewhat strange, but this movie cannot be recommended to those with any shred of self-respect. Just be thankful that this reviewer watches films so you do not have to and you don't want to watch this film (even for the gratuitous nudity).

Overall: 4 out of 10 (starts off good and then slips into the usual Full Moon Picture routine - nudity and a struggling plot.).
