"Death Valley" and the Source of that Smell: A Television Review ("Partners")

Written By: Eric Weinberg.

Directed By: Jordan Vogt-Roberts.

This horror fan has been away from MTV's "Death Valley" for awhile now. The latest show called "Partners" got this reviewer back on track as John John (Texas Battle) lies in the hospital after a zombie attack. There is also a mole in the Undead Task Force's ranks who has stolen some weapons. Officer Pierce (Bryce Johnson) is moving in on the rookie cop for a date in the captain's office and the vampires want a peace treaty after the death of Rico (R. J. Cantu). All of this action happens in a fairly lighthearted twenty minutes.

The main plotline of the show involved a mole selling out the rest of the unit. Cpt. Dashell (Bryan Callen) has Stubeck (Charlie Sanders) on the job and while compiling info' from recorded tapes he finds something strange. Viewers will have to watch to find out who the real menace is. As well, Officer Rinaldi (Tania Raymonde) and Landry (Caity Lotz) visit the home of a senior citizen who cannot let go of her husband. He is now a zombie and smelling bad apparently. The show ended with some pretty obvious action occurring in the next episode ("Peace in the Valley") at the hospital, where John John is holed up.

This show packs a lot of plot and character developments in a short twenty minutes. The comedy seemed a little light in this episode, but all the interactions were fun to watch. As well, watching Dashell read trashy romance to a captive audience (John John) was a little awkward. Dashell seems to have few boundaries. The horror was relegated to a few interactions at Rico's funeral and one climactic moment involving the mole. Overall, this episode showed some good fiction.

"Partners" aired November 14th at MTV and this show continues to progress in story. The characters are likeable and the supernatural element keeps the show interesting. The comedy seems to be falling by the wayside, but this episode held one reviewer's interest. Check this showing and others out at MTV.

Overall: 7 out of 10.
