CW’s "Supernatural" and Going Deep with "How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters”

Director: Guy Bee.

Writer: Ben Edlund.

Just what are the Leviathans in "How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters" up to? They seem to be reinventing the world and making one huge statement on fast food culture. If this episode does not scare the consummate meat eater into going vegetarian, nothing will. This episode is not literal in putting forth that idea, but given reports of obesity levels on the rise, that lifestyle is still important to explore.

But at the heart of this episode is also a question of just how long Hunters can last chasing down monsters. Is it up till the day they die when a Hunter finally slips or is it until they get tired of this life?

Initially, the Winchester brothers are simply investigating sightings of the Jersey Devil. Attacks are on the rise and in what they find, the creatures they discover are uber-zombies. They are humans who have consumed too many drug-tainted turducken burgers made at Biggerson's, a fictional burger chain.

While Bobby and Sam are conducting a gruesome autopsy on a human body, Dean offers a few chuckles in what would otherwise be a grim situation. This TV series rarely gets disgusting with loathsome corpses that come alive or revealing with semi-digested creatures. When it does, at least the prosthetic effects are of a high quality. And finally, this episode serves up an interesting moment to satisfy plot-pinchers.

A rough idea in what the Leviathans are up to is finally revealed. They are interested in power plants and strategic locations of what may be nuclear power plants. The TEDx conference is hinted at for those fast enough to watch what Bobby was examining. But in a nutshell, these Leviathans were going to fatten up the populace of Jersey for their own fast food consumption. The chemical they are putting into the meat is designed to mute their senses as well. After Dean's drug-induced moment with the product, he gets to sleep it off. Lucky him.

If anyone else was eating this poisoned meat product, they could very well be suffering from more than just a case of Montezuma’s revenge.

In order to find out what is happening, Bobby, Sam and Dean stake out the factory where the food is being sourced. They discover the Leviathan's are involved, and in one of those tender moments, audiences get to find out just how worried this family unit is for each other. Bobby delivers one of the best one-liners in this episode, “Aren't you full up playing Snuffleupagus with the devil all the live-long?” to Sam.

After realizing his own feelings with Sheriff Jody Mills a few episodes ago, he is probably thinking about the Winchester brothers as well. He even chides Dean for falling off the wagon with Lisa and Ben. Sam still has some demons to contend with. Apparently, Lucifer is not being forgotten. Just when he'll make his next appearance, however, is.

As for whether or not Bobby has any say in the later episodes will be uncertain. This episode ends with a cliffhanger that will certainly bring viewers back December 2nd.

Overall: 7 out of 10.
