SDCC '11: James McTeique's The Raven: A Preview with John Cusack

Director: James McTeique.

Writers: Ben Livingston and Hannah Shakespeare.

The father of the modern mystery novel has a new lease on life. The San Diego Comic Convention gave audiences a preview of The Raven, a film that looks at the final days of Edgar Allan Poe's life. Director James McTeique (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin) is still putting the finishing touches to this movie.

According to John Cusack, who is playing the coveted role, in an interview to the Associated Press, this film is both an art movie and popcorn movie all wrapped up into one. This product is scheduled for release March 9th, 2012.

Other stars include Luke Evans (Immortals, Clash of the Titans), Alice Eve (Sex and the City 2), Brendan Gleeson (Harry Potter Series) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Faster).

In this film, Poe is the modern detective. After noticing that there is a series of murders, which mirrors his own works, he goes about tracking down the killer, and the results will no doubt be haunting. Perhaps there may even be a reveal – Poe's real life and death has often been a subject of intense speculation and this movie may even take a stab at this topic.

Until recent years, on the anniversary of Poe's passing, three red roses and a bottle of cognac have been left at his grave. Whoever this Poe Toaster is, maybe some answers will be given as a fitting resolution.

Or at the end, only the Raven can quoth, "Nevermore!"
