Phase 4 Films Releases All Eight Fangoria Frightfest Films on DVD this Week!

The 2010 Fangoria Frightfest film entries are moving to DVD this week through Phase 4. This series released in Canada September 21st and the US release is scheduled for September 28th. Films included: mysterious thriller The Tomb, the suspenseful The Haunting, the goreific Pig Hunt, the dismal Hunger, the disturbing Grimm Love, the original Road Kill, shocker Fragile and this year's winner of the event Dark House. This film festival competition was successful because of fan support and horror enthusiasts can have a look at the DVD special features for each of the titles listed here inside.

Dark House

Director: Darin Scott.

Producer: Mark Sonoda.

Cast: Jeffrey Combs (House on Haunted Hill), Meghan Ory (John Tucker Must Die), and Diane Salinger .

The synopsis for Dark House:

"A group of hot young drama students are recruited to work in a new 'haunted house' attraction by flamboyant, impresario Walston Rey (Jeffrey Combs), whose revolutionary holographic system allows monstrous creations to be projected in an infinite number of scenarios. As a marketing ploy, the house Walston has chosen was once the scene of seven horrible and gruesome murders committed by Janet Darrode. Now Darrode’s angry spirit wants to continue her killing spree by hideously murdering each student in diabolically insidious ways!" (Phase 4).

Fragile

Director: Jaume Balagueró.

Producer: Joan Ginard.

Cast: Calista Flockhart ("Ally McBeal"), Elena Anaya (Van Helsing), Richard Roxburgh (Moulin Rouge), and Gemma Jones (Bridget Jones).

The synopsis for Fragile:

"After almost a century, the Mercy Falls Children’s Hospital is about to close its doors for good. A nurse (Flockhart) is hired to assist in the closing process, but it soon becomes increasingly clear that there is a dangerous spirit living in the hospital, which the children call the ‘mechanical girl.’ This ghostly presence has a terrifying hold over them - and will stop at nothing to keep them in the hospital with her forever" (Phase 4).

Director: Jim Isaac.

The synopsis for Pig Hunt:

"A group of soldiers decide to go on a legendary hunting weekend - obsessed with the pursuit of a mythical and murderous three-thousand-pound man-eating wild boar! The adventure turns into a nightmare when they run into a group of throat-slitting Cult Girls who worship the Killer Pig" (Phase 4).

Road Kill

Director.: Dean Francis

Cast: Sophie Lowe (The Clinic), Bob Morely ("Home and Away"), and Xavier Samuel (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse).

The synopsis for Road Kill is here:

"Four young friends on a camping adventure are run off the road by an erratically driven road train - a massive three-trailer truck. With their own vehicle wrecked and the road train stopped, the friends march off to vent their anger at the driver. But the truck is empty. Suddenly, the silence is broken by the sound of gunshots. To escape, the friends commandeer the road train. What they discover inside the vehicle’s trailers proves more terrifying than anything out there on that lonely road. The next town is only three hours away, but will they reach it?" (Phase 4).

Grimm Love

Director: Martin Weisz.

Cast: Keri Russell ("Felicity"), and Thomas Kretschmann (The Pianist).

The synopsis for Grimm Love:

"Katie Armstrong (Russell), an American woman studying criminal psychology finds herself inexplicably drawn to a bizarre murder case for her thesis. She chooses to research the notorious German cannibal Oliver Hartwin and his dead lover Simon, who had allowed Oliver to murder and then devour him as the ultimate act of love and self-sacrifice. Katie soon becomes strangely obsessed with her subjects, and as she dives deeper into her research, she makes a horrifying discovery that will change the case – and Katie – forever" (Phase 4).

Hunger

Cast: Linden Ashby (Prom Night), and Lori Heuring (Anger Management).

The synopsis for Hunger here:

"Five strangers awaken to find themselves trapped in an underground dungeon. They soon realize they are the subjects of one man's sadistic experiment to test the depths of a human being's will to survive. As the days go by with no means of escape, their hunger increases as their humanity fades away" (Phase 4).

*This reviewer has seen the film and it is dreadful. Think 30-40 minutes of complete darkness.

The Tomb

Director: Michael Staininger.

Producer: Chris Benson.

Cast: Michael Madsen (Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2), Wes Bentley (American Beauty), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), and Kaitlin Doubleday (Catch Me If You Can).

The synopsis for The Tomb is here:

"Young professor Jonathan (Bentley) has it all, a promising career and an adoring fiancée, but when enigmatic Russian student Ligeia (Skya) appears, he is spellbound. As though possessed, Jonathan is unable to resist the diabolically beautiful stranger who draws out his wild side. They move to a remote mansion, where Ligeia reveals the spine-chilling secret to her immortality—the extraction of human souls. Horrified, Jonathan tries to run... but if Ligeia can’t have him, she’s determined to make sure no one else will either" (Phase 4).

The Haunting

Director/producer: Elio Quiroga.

Cast: Ana Torrent (The Other Boleyn Girl), and Francisco Boira (Bad Education).

The synopsis for The Haunting is here:

"Francesca is a young pediatrician, traumatized by the loss of a child through crib death. When the family moves to a new home in the country, supposedly to help her recover from the experience, she begins seeing completely inexplicable things. The house in which they now live seems to hide terrible secrets. Both the cellar and the attic are locked and barred to the family - and it is from both of these places that Francesca receives nocturnal visits that are slowly driving her mad" (Phase 4).
