Sweet Tooth Has Bite: A Short Movie Review

Director: Marc Roussel.

Writers: Marc Roussel, Ben Wilkinson, and Mark Thibodeau.

Sweet Tooth
is a horror short of five minutes from director Marc Roussel based on the writing of Roussel, Ben Wilkinson and Mark Thibodeau. This film was part of the 24 Hour Toronto Film Challenge for 2006. In this competition, filmmakers have one day to make a short film based on certain elements. The essentials for Sweet Tooth were the use of the word Legend, the prop poison and the theme or plotline of Ghost Story. All three of these subjects are incorporated in this little film, which is both darkly comedic and effective in the film's delivery of the conclusion.

This movie obviously clips by at a quick pace, but essentially the film is a myth builder on this reviewer's favourite holiday, Halloween. In the film, a dejected adult trick or treater takes out his frustrations on a local kid with the use of poison. The kid's ghost takes his frustrations out on his poisoner with a do unto others strategy. The result is a possible, additional, careless victim, who cannot control his own sweet tooth.

This film won third place at the competition mentioned above and the film is simply a lot of fun to watch. Canadian actor Ron Basch (Remote) pulls out another great performance and the film's tale is ageless. Those who have an interest in the mythos of Halloween, or dark comedy can watch the film, Sweet Tooth, at the link below. Fans of horror can also follow director Roussel's films Remote and The Elusive Man on the film festival circuit, with more details below.

Overall: 8 out of 10 (-1 for low quality digital, and -1 for shortness - however, the film offers a good joke, a little action, and good dialogue).
