The Wicker Man to be Remade for Second Time in The Wicker Tree

The Wicker Man (2006) starring Nicholas Cage was one of the worst horror remakes to come out that year, so why not try again? The Wicker Tree will attempt to do better, but why continue to remake a film that was superbly done in 1975? This film shows some hope as the original director, Robin Hardy, returns for The Wicker Tree, instead of Neil LaBute, but this director will have a tough time revitalizing any film after being away from Hollywood for twenty plus years. However, this reviewer's hat is off to Hardy for trying any film in the same vein of The Wicker Man after the abysmal 2006 production.

The synopsis for The Wicker Tree:

"Gospel singer Beth and her cowboy friend Steve, two virgins promised to each other, set off from Texas to enlighten the Scottish heathens in the ways of Christ. When they are welcomed with joy and elation to the village of Tressock, the border fiefdom of Sir Lachlan Morrison, they assume their hosts simply want to hear more about Jesus. Beguiled by beautiful, sexy Celtic music, in counterpoint to the bluegrass hymns Beth sings to them, she is elected Queen of the May. Meanwhile an increasingly doubtful Steve becomes her consort, destined to be hunted on horseback by the whole community in a ritual he believes to be an innocent race. Neither of them realize that these honors are being heaped upon them for a purpose that will lead them to a terrifying split end" (Shock).

Release Date: 2010.

Director/writer: Robin Hardy.

Cast: Christopher Lee, Honeysuckle Weeks, Graham McTavish, Clive Russell, Callum Mitchell, Jacqueling Leonard, Henry Garrett, Ailidh Mackay, Keith Warwick, and James Mapes.
