The Polly Staffle Grindhouse Film Festival Begins May 16th

The Polly Staffle Film Festival begins this Wednesday, May 16th in Las Vegas and the five day event will showcase over a dozen features of various lengths. The festival will be shown grindhouse style with two or three films showing each day at the Sci-Fi Center (Polly). John R. Hand's film Scars of Youth, pictured left, will have a world premiere at the event. The film moves forward two hundred years where society has totally broken down and one man fights to save his mother from an ominous black liquid (Polly).

Also in attendance is Dead Hooker in a Trunk, which is a Vancouver based film production that highlights the work of twin sisters Jen and Sylvia Soska. This film follows four friends who find a dead body during a mostly routine day. A still from the picture can be seen below for the film along with a synopsis. In total this festival will host five world premieres and showcase several horror icons e.g. Robert C. Sabin, Sean Cain, and Alex Pucci . A few more details on this event are below.

The synopsis for Scars of Youth:

"This is a post-apocalyptic world 200 years in the future; society has broken down into fragmented groups who now dwell within tangled woods. A small group is completely unaware of any civilization that exists beyond. In this world, a young man living in a decaying wreck of a dwelling struggles to come to terms with his bleak existence while trying to save his mother from the grip of a strange black fluid" (IMDB).

*Short films playing will range from horror: The Bet, Blood Shed, The Red Hours, Depraved, and Hypochondriac, to animated fun: Frankenstien vs. Wolfman in 3D, to film noir Stiletto, to sci-fi Babylon 2084.
