Regarding your questions, Are you talking about trackbacks or backlinks?

Trackbacks happen automatically. For the disqus comment system I had to enable it. For the standard WordPress blog I think they are set to display at the bottom of a post that is being linked to by another website.

Backlinks, however, are the real gold. Backlinks are when a blog links from their front page (hopefully) to your front page. If the blog has a higher rank than you, its like a validation vote to Google. It will also help with your Technorati rating and your page rank, eventually. I strive for those backlinks.

If you would like more tips on movie blogging, I created a website for it. It's called ProMovieBlogger.
