Neowolf and Audiences: A Movie Review

Director: Yvan Gauthier.

Writers: Alessandro De Gaetano, and Michael January.

Lightning Entertainment the distributor of Neowolf states that the film is for: "fans of New Moon and Twilight" (Lightning). In actuality the film is not for tweens, but for adult horror fans and here is why. There is lots of sexuality in the film and some nudity, both male and female. The blood effects and gore are not suitable for youths. The current of homo-erotica that graces Neowolf is not suitable for younger audiences. That aside, Neowolf is suitable for adults looking for something familiar and something well executed.

The film begins with a young couple having sex in the back of a jeep. A werewolf appears and soon characters are flying 20' in the air. The sexuality continues throughout the picture and this is not an element found in Twilight. In Twilight there is sexual frustration not explicit depictions of sexuality.

There are multiple bloody murders in the film, which is not suitable for adolescents. There is gunplay, limbs are removed, and there is much violence. Twilight involved simulated or implicit violence with few blood effects. There is a difference in the depictions of violence in these two films.

Homo-erotica is a mature subject matter and not suitable for tweens. One character is gay. Gayness is not an uncommon theme in film, but in Neowolf there is much male ass-grabbing, male-to-male flirtation, and incidences of male nudity. There is no discernible homo-erotica in Twilight. Neowolf is suitable for adults only.

The film is worth viewing for those who like good creature effects, mystery, conflict, and sexuality. The delivery of lines kept this reviewer laughing through the whole film. Laughter is a good thing. The make-up effects of the werewolves make the villains look primitive. Their actions follow their look. The appearance of a black bus with tinted black windows immediately signals bad guys, but the motivations of the killers are kept in shadows for much of the film. Mystery creates tension. Tension is a good element for a horror film. There is much interplay between characters and few serene moments. Lots of conflict creates a thrilling atmosphere. Sexuality is one of the sub-currents to the film. Thankfully, for this reviewer, much of the sexuality is heterosexual. Sexuality is one of the most basic of human functions and its appearance in film is exciting. All four of these elements make Neowolf suitable for horror watching and only for adults.

Acting/believability: 7 (some cheesy lines but well delivered, any flaws in dialogue are from writing).
Action/interaction/conflict: 6 (wandering musical interludes distract, but there is much conflict to be found).
Writing/story/conclusion: 7 (like the mature subject matter, fun).
Sountrack/musical selections: 7.5 (the music in the film is well done, in harmony).

Overall: 6.8 laughs out of 10.

*This film will be available April 20th
