Bio-Dead Attacks: A Movie Review

Director: Stephen J. Hadden.

Writer: Stephen J. Hadden.

Bio-Dead is a Time Warner Video-On-Demand selection for 2009 and the film blends science fiction with horror, in a grotesque fashion. A film with a claustrophobic feel, Bio-Dead offers a good time, but skimps on the size of cast and settings. A second film for director Stephen J. Hadden, fans can check this film out if you feel you can handle the gore!

The plot is simple, direct and revolves around four workers who must investigate the contaminated "Zone." The story takes place after a bio-terrorist attack in southern California. Millions are dead and a corporation has been given the green light to find survivors, retrieve bodies, and generally clean up the "Zone." However, things get complicated when a supposed safe area turns out to be a haven for the genetically mutated. Can this team of four bio-hazard workers (Tony Williams, Jacob Gentry, Derek Long, Matthew C. Norton) survive the night?

Viewers will have to check out the film for themselves, but the film offers two different takes on what is happening within the story (possibly more). It is when the main characters remove their masks that things take a turn for the worst. So, is the biological contamination completely dispersed in this safe zone, or is there a lingering hallucinogen still in the atmosphere? Fans of the sci-fi genre will have to take a look for themselves, while enjoying the tension on screen.

Stephen J. Hadden gets a lot right in Bio-Dead; only the lack of bodies and absence of destruction take away from the apocalyptic feel early in the film (due to budget). Yet, the music from the film, which is VERY similar to Escape From New York, is effective in amping up the tension. Also, the repetition of f-bombs is overdone, but the casting is appropriate, with the final credits adding a couple of gold nuggets. And steel yourself for the multiple scenes of gore!

Have a look at this film if your are in the mood for some light movie action. Not meant to be looked at deeply, Bio-Dead is an enjoyable ride to the "Zone" and back.

Setting/realism/importance to story: 6.5.
Story/plot/believability: 6.5.
Acting/believability/consistency: 6.5.

Overall: 6.5 leaking gas masks out of 10 (like a well-targeted dirty bomb).
