The After Dark: 8 Films to Die For Kicks off the Festival with The Broken


Over the next several weeks 28dayslateranalysis.com will be releasing selections from the "After Dark Films: 8 Films to Die For," which is the annual film festival celebration of all that is horror. The "After Dark," film festival begins in January 9, 2009 and is into its third year. Running the full spectrum of the horror genre everything from gore to the supernatural can be found at this unique movie extravaganza. "After Dark Films: 8 Films to Die For," is showing in major cities throughout the United States, and is garnering a great deal of respect and recognition from horror loving fans (Horror).

"The Broken"

The first film to be shown at the "After Dark Films: 8 Films to Die For," is "The Broken." An international film from the United Kingdom "The Broken," made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008, and stars Lena Headey with Richard Jenkins. This feature is from Academy Award nominee writer/director Richard Jenkins and from initial trailers looks very suspenseful and intense (Horror).

And now the synopsis...

A successful radiologist begins to question her life when she sees the spitting image of herself walking down a busy London street. Curious at first Gina follows this mysterious figure and soon finds herself in the midst of a family secret that involves her closest friends. Seemingly, with no one to trust Gina must rely on herself to uncover a deeply hidden personal truth (Horror).

Rating: Restricted for some violence, brief sexuality/nudity and language.

Starring: Lena Headey, Richard Jenkins, Asier Newman, Michelle Duncan, and Melvil Puopaud.

Many reviewers are commenting on the non-stop suspense of "The Broken." From reading reviews it appears that "The Broken," takes an intellectual approach to storytelling. This film opens up the "After Dark Films: 8 Films to Die For," festival in 2009 (Movies).
