W Delta Z A Gritty Urban Crime Drama

New York City cop Eddie Argo teams up with rookie police officer Helen Westcott to solve the brutal deaths of Jamal and his girlfriend. Both bodies are found near the piers and display "W Delta Z," on them. The knife work is bloody. Circumstantial evidence points to Pierre Jackson a rival gangster, but through further investigation and new developments another suspect comes under police scrutiny(Urban).

Two more bodies turn up, those of Wesley and his brother Gelb and both are also from Pierre's gang. Slowly the pieces fit together. Jean Lerner is a former victim of Pierre Jackson and his associates. She is taking justice into her own hands by hunting those gang members responsible for her beatings, confinement, and brutal rape (Urban).

Lerner is constructing a deadly experiment, whereby a victim must kill another or face brutal torture at the hands of this sick killer. The twist is that both victims have a connection either through blood or relation to each other and this makes the decision to save oneself at the expense of another an experiment in human suffering, and empathy (Urban).

"W Delta Z," is a gritty crime drama that takes place in the back alleys and apartment projects of inner-city New York. Clive Bradley is the writer of the screenplay and with themes of brutality, criminal life, and corruption this is a tale that will engross many viewers. Although, the sound mixing and recording of certain scenes is off, this does not take away from the overall entertainment value of the film (Urban).

Stellan Skarsgard plays a street-wise cop with an expertise in homicide while Melissa George adds a softer, more subtle performance to the film. Skarsgard powers through many of his scenes with a gruff exterior who later reveals a kinder, gentler side near the finish. The ending might blow viewers away (Urban).

The urban sets, dark lighting, and suspenseful plot create a horror film that deals in the psychology of altruism (giving without any expectation of return). Overall, "W Delta Z," is a dark film with a grisly, revenge theme that does not shy away from exposing the viewer from the seedy underbelly of street life and the challenge of solving multiple murder cases (Urban).

"W Delta Z," is a must see for those favouring chilling tales that probe the psychology of people's motivations and Morten Soborg's cinematography shows a versatility of filmmaking. This film moves from night shoots to dark interiors without pause and the subtle twists make this film rewatchable on many levels. Buy this one on DVD/Blu-Ray formats in 2008/2009 for the fun, thrills, and twists that makes "W Delta Z," a stellar crime drama.
