Rabid is a remake of the 1977 David Cronenberg film - of the same name. This latest production was developed by sisters and Vancouverites Jen and Sylvia Soska (American Mary). Their version has not been Rated. But, based on their previous work, this film will not shy away from blood and gore. Starring Laura Vandervoort (Jigsaw), Benjamin Hollingsworth (Code Black), WWE wrestler C.M. Punk and Phil Brooks, this horror title is hitting U.S. theatres tonight. The film will also show on Digital platforms. And, this release looks to be action packed.
Several early reviews have come out on the film. Mike McGranaghan at Aisle Seat mentions the practical effects: "some stellar prosthetics and FX work provide chills." All of the effects, from the trailer, look decent. Ian Sedensky at the Culture Crypt mentions one of the film's themes: "luckily, “Rabid” is a film about transformation." The main character Rose (Vandervoort) goes from beauty to disfigured and back again. Many of the early reviews are positive and this is one film to look out for.
Initially, Rabid will show in at least ten U.S. cities. Cities range from Hollywood to Houston and up and over to Chicago. This is a limited screening, so horror fans should get out to see the film tonight. In Canada, this title will be released by A71 Entertainment. Though, there are no specific release dates to announce. As well, DVD and Blu-rays are starting to trickle out on various online retailers - for those who enjoy the hard copy.
