The First Purge Shows How it All Began in this Prequel and Trailer

Tagline: "A Nation Reborn."

The First Purge is the fourth film in this action, horror series. James DeMonaco has written all of the films. In this latest title, Gerard McMurray (Burning Sands) directs a prequel. The First Purge covers everything that led up to the film's central McGuffin, twelve hours of lawlessness. In an attempt to get crime statistics down, the Founding Fathers of America allow a sociological experiment to take place, in an isolated community. The First Purge stars: Marisa Tomei, Lex Scott Davis, Luna Lauren Velez and many others. The film's first theatrical trailer is hosted here.

The trailer shows politicians and sociologists pushing for the Purge. Once they get their way, some people prepare, while others party the night away. Then, soldiers enter the mix. And, it becomes clear that this is a war on the criminals, or a war on the poor.

It is hard to believe that there have been four The Purge films in five years. It all began with Ethan Hawke in 2013 and The Purge. The success of this film was followed up by The Purge: Anarchy, in 2014 and The Purge: Election Year (2016). Each film has become increasingly more political, while sociopaths appear in each one. More details on this latest outing, which releases on July 4th in theatres, are below.
