George Cameron Romero's Rise of the Living Dead Early Film Details

A few early details are emerging for George Cameron Romero's (Staunton Hill) Rise of the Living Dead. This title, which is currently in development, will be a prequel to his father's film, Night of the Living Dead (1968). Rise of the Living Dead has already been crowdfunded. And, one cast member has been attached, Dimitri Thivaios. As well, a concept poster is available here, with story details below.

The film is set in 1962. In the '60s, Dr. Ryan Cartwright is searching for a way to survive a potential nuclear war. As events heat up during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Cartwright may have found an even deadlier threat to humanity. Now, a plague has been released on mankind, bringing about the end of days.

Cameron Romero has stated that the film will be a love letter to his father. As horror fans know, George A. Romero has died this year. Though, Cameron's father has read the script and called it "genius!" Formerly titled Origins, more details on Rise of the Living Dead will be announced soon.
