Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort is the latest film, in this long running horror series. This film is also the latest to be filmed in Bulgaria. Many of the previous films were shot here, as well. Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort is a standard sequel (not a prequel or remake), involving cannibalism and incest. A young man inherits an estate and spa. Unfortunately, this resort comes with a whole clan of inbred hillbillies. Danny (Anthony Ilott) must decide if he wants to join the Hillicker killing clan. Meanwhile, creepy caretakers are trying to sleep with everyone, while the resort's menu consists of human meat. Vacationers are soon butchered. And, this latest sequel has something to offer the fans of the series, something disturbing.

Danny is the unwitting central character and protagonist. It is hinted at that he is suicidal and dealing with depression. His friends are either thieves or pushovers. As well, Danny must deal with two very strange caretakers, who have no sense of hospitality. Soon, Danny is taken into the forest, to be initiated into his new family. The initiation rites involve having sex with his newly discovered sister, while drinking some of his friend's blood. Events only get stranger from here. In the background, Sawtooth (Danko Jordanov), Three-finger (Rhys Coiro) and One-eye (Asen Asenov) are doing their best to whittle down Danny's annoying friends. The blood-letting is constant and shudder inducing.

Cannibalism returns in this sixth film in the series. Characters need to be more careful when eating meat products, in these films. That bacon morsel might just have been someone's toe. The cannibalistic elements emerge late in the picture. Though, the appearance of Sawtooth, Three-finger and One-eye will signal to viewers that someone is about to be chopped up. The caretakers are also into cannibalism. Their friendly welcome is replaced by a meat cleaver and an arm, a few scenes later. A final scene shows this cannibalistic trio working a meat grinder. You can only image which body part that hamburger came from. In another scene, Danny states: "there was a barbq." That barbq involved another character, Nick (Luke Cousins), being disembowelled. Guess who or what Danny was eating? The references to cannibalism are numerous and grotesque.

The theme of incest is also prevalent in the film. Are you starting to feel disturbed, yet? The caretakers, who are brother and sister, almost kiss in one scene. Later, after Danny learns that he is related to these two caretakers, his sister tries to fondle him. A nighttime campfire brings another scene of incest. And, all of the members of the Hilllicker family are "pure," or inbred. The results are horrific. Many of the Hillicker clan are deformed. Some have missing eyes. Others are very short, while still others are relegated to a wheelchair or rocking chair. This is one family that you would want to disown.

The tone of the film is very strange; as well, the large amount of deformities lead to lots of makeup effects. The reasons for the strange tone are mentioned above. Almost every scene has some mention or visual of weird sexuality. Sally (Sadie Katz), one of the caretakers, finds delight in watching others have sex. There are at least two scenes which involve Sally spying on a couple rolling about under the sheets. Almost every scene of sexuality is being watching by one uninvited character. The strange sexuality is consistent through the film. Also, the make-up effects team must have been working overtime. There are lots of body parts being nicked, or chopped off. One man steps into a bear-trap, while another is caught in barbed wire. The blood smears all over the place and all over characters. In one late scene, a woman is pushed into boiling water. Her face is not the same and filled full of boils. The practical effects often look top notch, while the tone continues to unsettle at least one viewer.

Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort is getting set for a release on home video formats (Oct. 21st, 2014) and purchasers will find lots of disturbing scenes in this feature. Fans of the series will be happy to learn that a Wrong Turn 7 is already in development, with director Valeri Milev heading this sixth sequel. The film here is full of blood and gore. Characters are diced up by two very sexually awkward characters, while Danny finds the acceptance and sick family he always wanted. Though, most viewers would avoid this inbred family, like the plague. Blood effects look consistently realistic and the nudity is frequent. There is a reason that the Wrong Turn horror series is so long running; this series is often disturbing and full of spine-tingling scenes, which are hard to shake.

Overall: 6.75 out of 10 (minor characters are disposable, lots of bloody scenes, lots of violence and sex, story elements are sparse and centered on one McGuffin - an inheritance).
