Ti West and Eli Roth Collaborate on The Sacrament: A Preview

The Sacrament is the latest feature from directors Eli Roth (Aftershock) and Ti West (The Innkeepers). These two have teamed up together to produce a found footage film set in a suicide cult. This title has been in development for at least a year and the latest reports suggest that The Sacrament is two thirds complete. Also, AJ Bowen (A Horrible Way to Die), Joe Swanberg (V/H/S) and Amy Seimetz (You're Next) will star.

Based on available news, the film involves a journalist, in search of his missing sister. This journalist finds her in a commune and everything seems fine, at first. But, the charismatic cult leader, named The Father (Gene Jones) has secrets to hide and he is unwilling to let anyone in his flock go. A confrontation looms as the cult moves to zero hour (mass suicide) and the protagonist wants to save his sister's life.

The Sacrament was shot in Savannah, Georgia and the film is being produced by Worldview Entertainment and Arcade Pictures. The first still from the film was released earlier this year (above). The photo features AJ Bowen as Sam, one of the protagonists in the film. And, the film is sure to offer up a trailer fairly soon.

*Roth says of the film's tone and plot: "it becomes this crazy Jonestown suicide scenario and it all starts unravelling. It is really, really fucking scary. It is going to be an awesome horror movie” (Sci-fi Now).

**this film fan cannot help but be reminded of Gareth Evans and Timo Tjahjanto's "Safe Haven," which features a similar plotline. Both films deal with a documentary crew and a suicide cult, reaching zero hour.
