Eli Roth's The Green Inferno Brings Activists into the Mouths of Cannibals

Eli Roth hosted a chat with Chris Tilly (IGN), earlier this year, on the horror thriller The Green Inferno. The Green Inferno is another horror title in development, from Roth, Worldview Entertainment and Dragonfly Entertainment. The film was shot in the Amazon in 2012, with principal photography completed in December of last year. The film is expected to released in 2013. And, a few elements of the film's secretive story have been released.

The Green Inferno centers on several ecological activists. They fly down to the Amazon in order to prevent the destruction of a local, native tribe. They are successful in closing down the operation. But, on their way back to New York City, their plane crashes and they encounter a primitive cannibalistic tribe. Their activism is put on hold, while they try to save their lives!

The first still for The Green Inferno was released earlier this year (above). The photo shows actress Sky Ferreira as Kaycee, one of the film's central characters. And, a quote on Roth's influences for the film is posted below, along with cast and crew details.

Release Date: 2013.

Director: Eli Roth.

Writers: Guillermo Amoedo and Eli Roth.

Cast: Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Sky Ferreira, Nicolás Martínez, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Aaron Burns, Magda Apanowicz and Matías López.

*Roth says of his influences for The Green Inferno: "“It was one of the craziest experiences of my life [filming] making that movie. I love cannibal movies – I love Cannibal Holocaust, I love Cannibal Ferox, and I wanted to do one. I feel like they are due for a comeback. But I wanted to do it for a really good reason, and I didn’t really have that story. So it was something that was percolating" (IGN).
