CW’s "Supernatural:" The Slice Girls Opens Up Some Old Wounds: A Television Review

Director: Jerry Wanek.

Writers: Eugenie Ross-Leming & Brad Buckner.

The latest episode of "Supernatural" has gone back to filling a few gaps and only offering hints of what is to come for the remaining third of the series. When considering the opening montage, thoughts on Bobby’s death are not yet gone, Dean will have to look back at the events of “The Girl Next Door” and Frank is being sorely missed.

The clues are showing that Bobby is indeed around and offering advice from the Great Beyond. But the Winchesters are unsure if that’s the case. This direction is almost not surprising when considering how stubborn Singer is, and how unwilling he is to let go of anything he holds dear. From the beer bottle to some pieces of paper, the evidence is slowly stacking up.

The big reveal will most likely happen with either, "The Born-Again Identity" or “Of Grave Importance.” No airdates have been established, but if the episode titles are of any indication, some fans will be looking forward to seeing the old coot manifest.

Somebody has to slap Dean around, especially when considering what he did in this episode, “The Slice Girls.” Dean’s heart is not in hunting anymore, and even his one-night stand with a very attractive lady cannot seem to excite him. But when she gives birth to a rapidly aging amazon warrior who has to undergo a rite of passage — to kill Dean —, life is going to be hairy for him. But will the Amazons return in a later episode to avenge one of their fallen?

Since last season, the Greek influences have been quite common, and that may hint at how the Leviathans will finally be dealt with. The likelihood of the Winchesters leading a huge charge of Greek heroes, gods, and monsters against them are slim. All they have done is to irritate them, and if the series writers are smart, to suddenly have them try and unite all these cosmic forces will be a great way to cap this season off.

That can make for some grand storytelling and tie-in to a detail that Death said last season: they are a nexus point and that will determine the fate of many.

Assuming this season is a 22-episode run, only eight episodes remain. The series writers had better wrap up the Leviathan story-arc. So far its run has hardly been a whale of a time. The build-up dragged on for too long.
