Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt and Thinly Veiled Erotica: A Movie Review

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Full Moon Direct.

Director: Charles Band.

Writers: Charles Band and August White.

Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt is the definitive entry in to 28DLA's Worst Horror Films for 2011 and this title will likely be the winner. This is a sequel to a 1999 film titled Killer Eye and if you have not seen the original, you get a second chance here. Fifteen minutes of Killer Eye is shown in this already short film of seventy one minutes. The rest of the filler is more of the erotic kind as Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt skips the story in favour of a soft core pornography weak plotline. This film is simply an excuse to get a group of young women naked.

And Charles Band should really be getting his sexual thrills elsewhere, not in film. The plot breaks down simply: four girls decorate a house for Halloween, watch some film, flash a crystal ball and watch lots of Killer Eye. Then, this horny crystal ball uses electrical shocks to fry the meager brains of these characters so that they will disrobe. The director...oops, the crystal ball must procreate. Roll credits.

This might sound like the plot of an erotic film, but that would be an insult to erotica. There is no real story here and this film is really only about titillation. There are some blood effects here and there, yet this does not seem like a horror film. The acting is poor, there are no plot twists or mystery here and Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt is one of 28DLA's Worst Films of 2011 simply for not using any character development, plot development nor quality actors.

This title released on DVD October 18th and this movie has few redeemable qualities. Skip this one and be thankful for reviewers who have to sit through this money grabbing %&^* sometimes, so others do not have to.

Overall: 3 out of 10 (this is likely the lowest score a film has ever received on 28DLA).
