Dead Rising 2: Off the Record and Frank West's Return: "Sandbox" Mode and Critique

Capcom will be releasing Dead Rising 2: Off the Record October 11, 2011 via a downloadable copy or purchase. This time the destruction of Fortune City is given a different perspective as photojournalist Frank West replaces Chuck Greene (Peter Flemming). The photographic elements of the first game return, as well as a "Sandbox" mode, which allows players to test their undead killing might. As well, there will be drinking contests and money to be earned, along with additional prestige points.

Capcom has said of this upcoming release: "players can explore the casinos, restaurants, malls and new Uranus Zone that comprise Fortune City without the obstacle of time." Based on the trailer for "Sandbox" mode this is not entirely true, as players must dismember a specific amount of zombies to receive bronze, silver and gold medals. From this game players perspective, Dead Rising 2 added in spectacular graphics and a huge assortment of weapons. However, the sequel seemed far too repetitive to the original game e.g. rescuing survivors, killing thousands of zombies, similar achievements. The increased survivor artificial intelligence was a nice addition, but this title needed more challenges rather than more of the same. Hopefully, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, the sixth game in the franchise, will offer players something unique for fans, who deserve the challenges of the original. The trailer for "Sandbox" mode is below.

Release Date: October 11, 2011
