Someone's Knocking at the Door and the Bizarre: A Movie Review

Director: Chad Ferrin.

Writers: Chad Ferrin and Roham Ghodsi.

Chad Ferrin and Crappy World Films produced Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill! for release this year and their latest film is Someone's Knocking at the Door. This feature will release on DVD and Blu-Ray May 25th via Vicious Circle Films and the film stars a number of recognizable independent actors. A giant step up from Easter Bunny, Ferrin gets the right amount of excitement in the film, while creating a unique, horrifying movie watching experience through the use of sexual deviancy and shocking imagery.

The plot is a lot more complex than Easter Bunny; from a reductionist viewpoint the film involves perception and secondarily illicit drug use, hallucinations, and near death experiences. A group of young medical students set out to investigate a pair of deceased serial killers in the hospital's basement only to succumb to an ancient vial of experimental drugs. The next sixty to seventy minutes is a trip through the psychedelic imaginations of the students shown through their dying eyes, or through their drug altered lenses. Either of these conclusions could be equally argued as the ending is not as tidy as some would believe (Twitch).

Someone's Knocking at the Door is a brilliant piece of cinema art that entertains through a delightful visual sphere, while challenging viewer's comfort levels with explicit scenes of sexual perversion. A man chasing a woman down a medical institution's long hall by an overweight man displaying a 15" penis is just the tip of iceberg. Other disturbing images include a male on male rape, forced bloody fellatio, and many others. Ferrin is out to horrify in this feature and if you are easily upset or shocked then this is not the feature for you. However, for others that are looking for something creative, bizarre, and unpredictable then Someone's Knocking on the Door is a must see.

The film cannot be delved in too deeply; otherwise, the film's ending will be given away. Yet, the film is an example of how a small budget can go the distance to bring something very new and exciting to the table. The inclusion of Lew Temple (Halloween), Vernon Wells (The Butcher), Sean Cain (Silent Night, Zombie Night), Noah Segan (All About Evil), Ezra Buzzington (Underdog), Ricardo Gray (Homecoming) and many others is a welcome addition to a well-written, thought-provoking film that truly must be seen to be believed (see warning above though).

Plot/story/closure: 7.75 (the ending is open and requires individual interpretation).
Editing/pacing/transitions: 8 (hallucinations abound in the celluloid and heighten the film visually).
Setting/realistic/surrealistic: 7.75 (a diverse use of sets - exterior, interior some reliance on a archival room, but necessary for the story).

Overall: 7.85 out of 10 (the twist was just a little flat, but the final scene was brilliant, fun).
