Haunted Sets Matthew Fox Against the Undead in Simon Redux

"Haunted" was a television series that was shown in 2002 and aired a total of twelve episodes. The show lasted only one season and starred a pre-"Lost" Matthew Fox, Russell Hornsby (Get Rich or Die Tryin') and Lynn Collins (Blood Creek). One of the highlights of the series was the "Simon Redux" episode which featured leader singer Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day.

In the show Fox plays Frank Taylor a private eye who is coming to terms with the death of his young son. In "Simon Redux," Taylor faces those from the other side, or other world, some of whom hope to thwart his ability to seek and talk with the dead. Taylor has become slightly clairvoyant after having an NRE, or near death experience. The duration of this show is Taylor facing a long dead spirit known as Simon who attempts to make Taylor look very crazy in the presence of his old girlfriend.

The show runs sixty minutes and packages a great deal of character development and conflict in a short run time. Lead singer Armstrong gets a little less development as a ghost long deceased after a bet has gone unpaid. As well, ghosts appear, possessions take place, and deals are made with the dead in order to keep the central core group of characters cohesive. As well, character Nicholas Trenton (Eddie Cahill) gets a larger role playing the new beau of Collins' character, Jessica Manning.

The episode goes by at a quick clip and the use of the spiritual world keeps the series interesting. Fox plays off the other characters in the series confidently and shows a vulnerable man and sometimes volatile character after the death of his child. The entire "Haunted" television series has been available on DVD since April 13th courtesy of Phase Four Films and a link to purchase your own copy is below.
