Check out the full trailer and synopsis until the website launches tomorrow (December 1st, 2009).

The first trailer for Underground here:

The Freeway Killer and Realism: An Early Movie Review

Director: John Murlowski.

Writer: David Birke.

The Freeway Killer is a film developed by Bleiberg Entertainment for a February 16, 2010 DVD release via Image Entertainment. A film that chronicles the real life murder spree of serial killer William Bonin, the Freeway Killer is brilliantly portrayed by Scott Leet (Dark Reel). A film that also covers rape, kidnapping, and the early sexual abuse of William Bonin the Freeway Killer asks a question of the viewers - why?

The Freeway Killer begins with Bonin (Scott Leet) in jail recalling his past murderous exploits to the mother of one of the victims. Unfolding in storied flashbacks the film graphically displays some of the murders that took place in Orange County and Los Angeles between the years 1979-80. This real life horror film ironically does not portray some of the more graphic instances of rape and torture in an attempt to focus on the entertainment value of the story rather than the horrifying informative aspects of this real life homicide cases.

One of the first aspects of the film that will blow viewers away is the neurotic portrayal of William Bonin by Scott Leet. Unbeknownst to some Scott Leet has been in at least fifteen televised productions and this actor portrays the paranoia of Bonin like a talented magician. Displaying several tricks of the acting trade, Leet confidently switches from controlling manipulator to vulnerable loneliness sometimes within seconds. While honourable mentions go to Michael Rooker (Penance) as Detective St. John and Dusty Sorg as Vernon Butts, Leet really steals the show!

Unfortunately the film does not explore the motivations of this serial killer. In an attempt to keep the Freeway Killer more in black and whites the film does not delve into the past of Bonin. Bonin was sexually molested as a child by his own grandfather and treated as an object of neglect by his alcoholic mother. Deeply troubled this tortured soul's past is given all but thirty seconds of attention in an attempt to distance the viewer from killer and to tie up the ending neatly. Sadly, life is not so black and white as those who are sexually abused rarely receive treatment or adjust to the social norms of the population (minor sidetrack here).

The Freeway Killer is an eighty-five minute dramatic portrayal of the real life of William Bonin between the years '79 to '80. Balancing itself nicely on the catwalk between being an entertainment piece and being simply informative the film leaves the darkest parts of Bonin's unresolved sexual conflicts out of the show in order to respect the viewers' sensitivities. An enjoyable watch from beginning to end, viewers need to pay attention to future performances from Scott Leet. Check out the show in February, 2010.

Slaughtered and the Bizarre: A Movie Review

Director: Kate Glover.

Writer: Kate Glover.

Known as Schooner of Blood in Australia and Slaughtered in North America, this first film from Kate Glover goes for the jugular right from the top. But the film poses a serious question: is it appropriate to keep serving beers when you have seen most of your friends murdered? Unbelievable in parts Kate Glover's first step in to the horror genre is a step mostly in the right direction.

Recently shown at the American Film Market for buyers Slaughtered's story involves a killer on the run in a small isolated pub. Characters Ryan (Christopher Tomkinson), Ash (James Kerley), and Luke (Tudor Vasille) are ripened for the slaughter while barkeep Jamie (Chloe Boreham) struggles to unmask the unknown villain. Few survive until the end and Slaughtered will likely remain a stand alone film.

The writing of the story seems to falter in places as characters deny their survival instincts in favour of becoming just another victim. After several bodies are found within the film the strategy for character Ryan and others seems to be business as usual. Written by Kate Glover the film shows some possible irrationality, but Kate's passion for writing shows through in the central heroine, Jamie, who is the antithesis of a female victim.

A predictable formula makes Slaughtered slightly unoriginal in the robust slasher horror genre, but something about the well developed characters makes the film worthy of a watch. Laughable at times possibly by mistake, Slaughtered aka Schooner of Blood is worth a watch and will hit North American shores at a later date. A film that gets many more things right than wrong, Slaughtered will not be the last time Kate Glover's name is seen in credits.

6 open mouths out of 10 (like your worst nite at the bar x 10).

Trail of Blood: An Interview with the Guerrieri Brothers

Joseph Guerrieri (The Jackalope) and Justin Guerrieri are the brains and the legs behind horror film Trail of Blood. A film that is character driven, horrifying, and full of surprises, Trail of Blood is currently in post-production and searching for distribution. To be shown at film festivals beginning in 2010 the Guerrieri brothers have taken the time out from moviemaking to talk to me for all of you about Trail of Blood, the process of filmmaking, life and filming in the Angeles National Forest. Have a look at the interview below and prepare to be soaked in blood once the film is available to fans in 2010.

(Michael Allen) Hi Joseph and Justin thanks for talking about your film Trail of Blood.

(Joseph Guerrieri) It is our pleasure and thanks for posting an article of the film on your horror website.

(MA) No problem, can you tell me where your film company is based out of?

(Joseph G) We are based out of Los Angeles on the westcoast.

(MA) Great! I am on the westcoast as well. Let us talk about your newest horror film Trail of Blood. Where abouts in the production process are you?

(Joseph G)We are just putting the finishing touch on the film now. We are working with the special effects. So, there are a few things that we are dealing with. Other than that the film is basically done.

(MA) That sounds great. So, it sounds like the film will be available for fans soon. True? Have you found distribution for the film?

(Joseph G) We do not have a distributor yet.

(MA) Distribution seems to be part of the process of filmmaking along with film festivals. I think fans will recognize Robert Picardo from Star Trek fame. Can you tell fans what else Robert Picardo has starred in?

(Joseph G) He was on Star Trek: Voyager, he played the doctor. He has also been on Stargate: Atlantis. He has done a number of films with our executive producer Joe Dante including the Masters of Horror series (Homecoming). He was in Innerspace. They have done a lot of movies together. He was also Coach Cutlip on the Wonder Years.

(MA) Can you tell me who else is in the film that fans might recognize?

(Joseph G) The film also stars Kandis Erickson who you might recognize from the film Seance (200^). She is wonderful too and a great actress. There is another actor named Trevor Torseth. He has done a bit of television work. He was in a film called Lake Dead - he plays the villain. There is Maggie VandenBerghe and she was in a film called Aliens in the Attic. The film has a lot of young strong actors.

(MA) I have heard of Lake Dead- enjoyed it! Where did you shoot most of the scenes for Trail of Blood?

(Joseph G) We shot the entire film in the Angeles forest. It is right outside of LA'.

(Justin Guerrieri) It is pretty much a half hour outside of Los Angeles. Some of our shots were in higher elevations in the forest and the location was an hour outside of LA'. All the shooting was relatively close to LA', but we were trying to find locations that had a deep in the woods look. We found some cool locations for the movie.

(MA) I get lost in the woods all the time so this sounds horrifying already. How long was the shooting schedule?

(Joseph G) We shot it in two weeks or twelve days. It was six days on and one day off.

(MA) For fans who have not heard of Trail of Blood yet can you give them an intro' into the film and what to expect?

(Joseph G) The main character in the film is a young kid who has just enlisted in the Marines and him and his friends are going out into the woods. Along the way they encounter this ex-Marine who saw combat in Iraq and things take a turn towards the very ugly.

(MA) It sounds like this ex-Marine is a candidate for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Is that true?

(Justin G) Yes, essentially the film covers this ex-Marine with PTSD who accuses the kids of having killed a person in the woods. After, there are some bodies found in the woods. He accuses them of murdering these people and the movie changes into a hostage situation where the accusation fly back and forth. It is a psychological cat-and-mouse game between this ex-Marine and the young man who just enlisted in the Marines. They have a stand-off!

There is some mystery about who is doing the killing, but it really turns into a psychological thriller. The kids are trying to survive because the kids did not do it (murder).

Robert Picardo is an FBI agent who has a sixth sense and he kind of knows who the killer is, but he is kind of tormented by his own issues and his own demons. He has been following different murderers. He has a cool premonition about what is going on.

(Joseph G) We wanted to do something that was a genre film and then have a character driven story. It is a psychological journey not just a typical horror film. We wanted to make a smart film not just a popcorn movie. It is not a light film. It is a pretty serious film the way we undertook it. We crafted some cool characters and we wanted to watch the characters collide.

(MA) Okay, I think that is great introduction to the film and viewers can stay tuned as Trail of Blood develops over the next several months.

(Justin and Joseph G) Thanks a lot for talking with us and we will keep you up to date as the film develops. Thanks for the interview and take care.

Nine Dead Partners with Fabrication Films

Fabrication Films has picked up Nine Dead for distribution and now, to celebrate the union, a new one-sheet poster has been released. The newest poster looks very morbid with, likely, may of the characters lying in a prone position and possibly comatose or worse. Already Nine Dead has had its premiere at the American Film Market, but now, with distribution, the film is likely to show through a limited run with a future DVD/Bluray release in the works. Very other info' is currently available on director Chris Shadley's Nine Dead other than the film will have a 2010 release. Stay tuned for details.

An in-depth plot summary or script summary here:

"A masked gunman is on the prowl, kidnapping seemingly random victims without hesitation or remorse. First, a Vegas club owner, then a Hollywood actor and then a Los Angeles District Attorney; all taken in the blink of an eye with expert precision.

The police are helpless and baffled by the kidnapper's motive even as one of their own detectives falls victim to the one-man crime-wave. The true number of kidnapped victims and the assailant's motive comes to a haunting reality when these nine strangers find themselves handcuffed to nine separate poles in a bunker built by the masked gunman who is hell bent on revenge. But the gun in his hand and the threat of death are just tools in his forced act of attrition.

If the Gunman is going to succeed, he needs someone to live. "I have brought the nine of you here for a reason. Your survival depends on you figuring out what that reason is. I will leave you alone for you discussions but i will return over ten minutes and kill one of you until you figure out why I have brought you here, or until you are all dead." And with his single deadly statement, the gunman closes the bunker door, leaving the nine stranger scared, desperate and unsure of who will be the first one killed or if any will live.

They confess their worst crimes, sins and innermost fears hoping to find the connection that will keep them alive. As each ten-minute period expires, the gunman re-enters the bunker and asks his one simple question. "Why are you here?" If they don't have every piece of his twisted puzzle a single gunshot kills one of the nine resetting the clock giving survivors another chance to uncover the gunman's truth. Criminals, everyday citizens, a cop, a lawyer and a priest have all been extracted from their lives and thrust into a world of betrayal, deceit and murder. Unsure who to trust and what to believe, the nine must rely on each other before the clock on the next victims life runs down to zero.

Can their differences and prejudices be put asides? Will the answers come out? Who of the nine live and who dies? Only time will tell. You have ten minutes (IMDB)."

Release Date: 2010.

Director: Chris Shadley.

Writer: Patrick Mahoney.

Cast: Melissa Joan Hart, John Terry, Chip Bent, and Lawrence Turner.'

I Can See You and Inner Frontiers: A Movie Review

Director: Graham Reznick.

Writer: Graham Reznick.

I Can See You is a film that was completed in 2008 and the movie is now available on DVD. Rich in the surreal, I Can See You is an impressionistic take on the typical formula of: a group of twenty-somethings go out to the bush only to be sliced and diced by the strange locals. Slow in pacing, initially, the music and final act make up for any early flaws.

The film stars Ben Dickson as Richards, a man who has encountered a block in artistic endeavours, Ben suggests a trip into the countryside to find inspiration for an ad campaign. Also, starring Duncan Skiies as Doug, Christopher Ford as Kimble, and Olivia Villanti; each of these characters take a step into a dream world, just outside of New York City. Instead of finding inspiration in the deep woods, the characters find a possible zombie, rape victim a la Deliverance, and much murder in what is probably the longest unexplained dream sequence in recent film history.

Since there have been zero interpretations of the final act, in reviews, this review will make an attempt to explain the final psychedelic images and conclusion in I Can See You. Likely an extended dream of central character Richards, the last act is a glimpse into the subconscious of a man searching for artistic inspiration. The film concludes sharply with many other interpretations possible, but the use of surrealistic imagery, nightmarish music, and shots of darkness signify a dream sequence as experienced through the eyes of the character Richards.

Slow to build-up in intensity, the music from Graham Reznick (The House of the Devil) is ever-changing, eerie, and often unsettling - especially near the final third of the film. Graham Rezick is also the producer, editor, and special effects supervisor of I Can See You and he lays down some excellent tracks in the film. The 60s music video in the last act for glass cleaner product Claractix is the best of the many musical choices.

Available now through the film's website I Can See You is a film that shows what can be done with a small budget and bizarre ideas. Creative, surreal, and impressionistic the film challenges reality and the conventions of independent filmmaking while offering a thrill ride to a psychedelic funhouse in the film's final act. Check this film out wherever you can find it as the film is already developing a cult following.

The Viewer and 3-D Distortion: A Short Film Review

Director: Graham Reznick.

Writer: Graham Reznick.

The Viewer is a thriller short that has been added to the I Can See You DVD package and this 3-dimensional dramatic piece stands out in several ways. The short is visually stunning in 3-D and computer animated graphics. The story puts the viewer in the role of a mysterious murderer and the picture overall is very intriguing from beginning to end.

This Glass Eye Pix is the best one to date and The Viewer is a must see from the I Can See You DVD release date. Hypnotic, surreal, and almost fully immersible into the cinematic experience The Viewer must be picked up by those looking for something completely, unique and creative. Besides, who does not love seeing a stripper in 3-D?

A short synopsis for The Viewer here:

"The Viewer is a telepathic interrogation told from the perspective of a suspected murderer. Telepathic viewing doesn't come without a price, however. As the suspect resists the mind-reader's tactics, the "viewing" intensity is increased... dissolving the fragile boundaries between memory, identity, and reality (Glass Eye Pix)."

Sweatshop and Music Equals Lots of Blood

Sweatshop is set to show at the New York Horror Film Festival in a mere couple of hours. Dark, independent and set in a rave, Sweatshop starts at 7:30pm in the Tribeca Cinemas. If you are in the area support independent filmmaking and an underrated genre - the nightclub slasher.

Set to music, Sweatshop revisits the slashers of the late 70s and early 80s to present a modern take on this already perfected category. Head down to the Tribeca Cinemas right now so you do not miss the blood and action on screen! For everyone else, not in New York, check out the synopsis, trailer, cast and crew info' inside.

"Charlie has made a name for herself and her electronica parties and the plans for tonight’s rave are her most extreme yet. On the edge of the city is an enormous vacant factory… and now, she and her friends have just over an hour to set up for an explosive rager without getting caught. The problem is, they already have been.

Her oversexed friends throw back a few drinks and begin setting up, unaware that they are being watched by something sinister lurking within the dark building’s endless corridors. With their attention quickly drifting away from the party and onto each other’s bodies, they begin to disappear into the night. With the music already blaring, no one can hear their frenzied cries of passion and terror. Little do they realize, a beastly all-seeing presence resides in this enormous place, and it drags a mammoth, inhuman weapon that serves only one purpose: to end the lives of anyone who trespasses here. Charlie hoped tonight’s party would be the best she’d ever thrown and now, it looks like it will be her last (NYHFF)."

Director: Stacy Davidson.

Writer: Stacy Davidson.

Cast: Ashley Kay, Peyton Wetzel, and Brent Himes
