Silence Ca Tue: A Short Film Review

Director: Christophe Lamont.

Writer: Christophe Lamont.

"Silence Ca Tue" is an entertaining piece of guerrilla cinema from Belgium with many shots unfolding spontaneously. A snaking plot does not take away from this films interesting take on filmmaking and the difficulties of making a film within this small European country.

The plot of "Silence of Ca Tue" is a little opaque with an ambitious film director walking amongst the streets of a Belgium town shooting, with a gun, those he despises. First, a director who rejected Nicolas Anseroul screenplay is killed indirectly with a fall down the stairs and then a slightly arrogant college professor is killed in cold-blood. The film takes events to bizarre lengths with the deaths of several of the main characters who are killed after disagreements develop in this supposed live action shoot.

Some of the highlights of "Silence Ca Tue" are the films beautiful locations, randomness of events, and the joy of filmmaking seen on the faces of several of the actors or participants, but the slightly unfocused script means that there are shots that meander for a little too long. The film is shot throughout Belgium, mostly Brussels, with English subtitles matching the French spoken on screen, and the change of settings keeps this short film interesting (66 minutes). Also, the joy and camaraderie amongst the actors means that the interactions are genuine and natural. Only unnecessary stops at a party and a doctor's office stand out as odd with no addition to the story from these two locations.

Shot guerrilla style "Silence Ca Tue" has now been released and can be found amongst many locations including the Brink DVD website. Intriguing, funny, and time mostly well spent this film is worthy of a watch and still enjoyable even with a few flaws in plot. Despite the hurdles Belgian cinema is getting some much needed attention through "Silence Ca Tue."

Plot/story/writing: 5.5.
Acting/believability: 7.
Directing techniques: 6.
Overall: 6.25 out of 10.

I disagree with what you said about the actors. I think the youthful joy of the actors is actually the highlight of the film and would give it very high marks.
Also, regarding the story and plot: The film did have its faults (it did feel longer than that 66 minutes...) but I liked the spontaneity of everything. Really kept me entertained for the most part.

Okay Josh, your first comment makes no sense and if you read the review I state right here: "the joy of filmmaking seen on the faces of several of the actors or participants." This line actually states that the acting is well done. There is a second line in my review that backs up this first line. Try reading the reviews before making comments or writing your own reviews, so that I can critique yours as well. Have a good weekend.
